Cardinal Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI) perhaps spoke prophetically of this little remnant:
The Church will be reduced in its dimensions, it will be necessary to
start again. However, from this test a Church would emerge that will
have been strengthened by the process of simplification it experienced,
by its renewed capacity to look within itself… the Church will be
numerically reduced. —Cardinal Ratzinger (POPE BENEDICT XVI), God and the World, 2001; interview with Peter Seewald
Thoughts from me: A priest friend in St. Louis a few years back asked Archbishop Rigally
who is now Cardinal Rigally, "If here was to be a schism in the Church,
how would I know as a priest what to do?" The Bishop openly told all
the priests in the room, "There is already in Rome the document. It is
called an Interdict. Its a canonical term for the reorganization.
Diocesan boundaries will be reorganized. Bishops and priests loyal to
the Church will be put into place.
Interdict: In the Roman Catholic Church, the term interdict (pronounced
/ˈɪntərdɪkt/) usually refers to an ecclesiastical censure. This censure
excludes from certain rites of the Church individuals or groups, who
nonetheless do not cease to be members of the Church.
